the amazing dress part 2: the conquer

On Sunday I took a little trip to my favorite place, KOP. I had bought this BCBG dress from Nordstrom's last week, and I decided to return it. The more and more I looked at it, the more I realized that it wasn't worth what it cost. It was a pretty shape and nice fabric, but the print was just so-so. Plus it was a bit pricey, so I decided to return it before I get my Nordstrom bill. I was on a mission to get that American Apparel dress I have been obsessing over. I had a feeling that I might not like how it looked on me, halters and strapless aren't really my thing. So I decided to hit up Victoria's Secret first to get a proper bra. I ended up getting 3 different ones, one strapless, one regular, and one of those 'you can wear this bra 100 ways' bras. It's pretty neat. There really are a ton of ways to wear it. Like for example, regular bras (if Frank Costanza taught us anything) have 2 hooks in the back and 2 in the front for the straps. This bra just has little hooks all over it so you can really put the straps anywhere. Plus it has a longer strap for wearing it as a halter. It also comes with this back extension that wraps around your stomach so you can wear the bra really low in the back. I haven't really experimented with it much but I can see it coming in handy.

Anyway, back to the point, after I picked up my bras I headed over to American Apparel. They had the dress in a billion colors. I tried it on in navy blue. I. Loved. It. At first I couldn't tell if it actually looked good or if I was just trying to convince myself that it looked good. I knew I would be a little biased since I was so obsessed with it so I was trying to think as neutrally as I could to make sure I wasn't just buying it because I liked the idea of the dress. I tried to remember as many ways to wear it from the video and kept trying different ways in the fitting room. Adorable. I ended up getting it in navy and a dark purple. Some of the lighter shades were really pretty (the coral and the yellow) but I figured the dark ones would be more flattering plus would hide stains less (those Sea Isle city bars are a mess). After I showered last night, I watched the video's AGAIN (I know, I feel like a stalker) with the dress on and tried all the different styles. I really like practically all of them. I think my hardest decision now will be which style to pick when I wear it this weekend... Plus, I got the 2 AA dresses for half the cost of the one BCBG dress and I know I will wear them like a million (yeah, A MILLION) times more then the BCBG one.

This past weekend recap: Left at 4 and ..no traffic again! Bizarre. Got down to AC around 6. The Borgata is AMAZING. Had a fancy dinner at an Italian wine bar. Got chicken that was still on the bone so that grossed me out and made me wish my dad was there to cut it up for me. Kathy Griffin was HILARIOUS. I cried. Seats were much closer then we thought. Got down to Sea Isle around 10:30. Not many people there this weekend so it was nice, relaxed, and quite.

Peace and sound financial decisions,

the amazing dress

Yesterday while I was getting ready to leave work, I was browsing the American Apparel site. I came across this dress:

It's the cotton spandex jersey bandeau dress. They say it can be worn either strapless or as a halter. But it doesn't stop there! There is this little video thingy that says it will show you 15 ways to wear this dress. So I'm thinking, 15? They're probably all basically same way but with just a few small changes. I got sucked into this video thing. I watched all 15 videos, probably each about a minute long, of this girl who just keeps putting the dress on in different ways. It was pretty crazy, I was amazed. I even stayed at work a little later the usual to finish up the video. The way that is shown at the top is actually one of my least favorites. A better look is when you twist the straps in the front (instead of just crossing them) and then tie it as a halter (shown in the yellow and black versions below). You can also knot it in the front, then tie it as a halter. There were a few strapless versions that seemed neat but I think I would prefer to have some sort of strap. There were about 3 versions where the girl just tucked the straps into the top to make it look like a dress with regular straps or a jumper which looked great but seemed really impractical because the straps were not attached to anything. You can twist the dress to the side and tie the straps over one shoulder to get a cool asymmetrical look. There are 2 versions of the dress as a skirt. They are basically the same thing, one is a high waist and one is a regular skirt, both use the halter straps as a belt. The 14th look is absolutely insane. The girl takes off the dress completely (don't worry, she is wearing a full AA spandex bodysuit), flips it upside down, and steps into it. I'm thinking, what is this girl doing? Then she gathers the bottom of the dress around her neck and ties it at the back to form a cowl-neck halter but since the top of the dress is around her waist, its really fitted. The halter straps are used as a belt at the bottom of the 'shirt'. I can't believe I just wasted 15 more minutes of my life watching this video again. I'm going to need this dress. Now, the question is: What color?

The dress is $36 but there are 15 ways to wear it!!! $2.40 per look. It's like they're giving it away.

Peace and versatility,

going green

A few years ago, it would be obvious that I am talking about the color green, and not the environmental connotation of the word. Since its not a few years ago, I'll clarify. I'm not doing anything good for the environment. I'm just looking for green colored clothes for my St. Patty's celebration this Saturday. Mainly, I'm in the market for green sneakers and a green t-shirt. I headed to the mall after work today. Luckily the American Apparel store just opened up. They had some cute things, I'll have to check back when my mind wasn't focused on green. Anyway, I got 2 plain t-shirts, one in kelly green (my personal favorite shade of green), one in white (I must always layer things now, damn you jcrew). I also picked up this non-green double-breasted cardigan. I think what I love the most about American Apparel is one side of the store is filled with these grandfather-ly cardigans and shiny hipster raincoats. Then the other side of the store is skin tight spandex dresses and glittery leggings in a million colors. It's an interesting mix. They had some cute summery dresses that would be great if they fit well because you could just buy them in every color and be set for the summer. (As much as I love fashion and clothes, I also love not having to think about it..) I'll definitely have to head back there after a few more paychecks.

My green shoe mission did not go so well. Urban only had really obnoxious bright pink, blue, and yellow sneaks. Journeys didn't have any either. At this point I'm pretty much out of stores to check for adorable fashionable sneakers. Sad face. I want something like these, minus the shamrocks.
I almost got a Northface raincoat because its supposed to be crappy weather on Saturday but I didn't because it was like $130. I might go back and get it though. I don't have any form of rain protection. Decisions, decisions.

Peace and kelly greenness,
